Its probably been discussed before, but why is there no 'For Sale' section? Other owner's club forums have them...

Hi i agree the current one is rubbish , we could do with one were you can list stuff and put pics on and numbers , so you can see the parts and contact seller vai email

Hi Guys

The club runs a members For Sale section in the P6 News which are then duplicated onto the website as stated. These adverts are paid for, to help support the club. To offer free adverts on the website would remove a considerable income from the club, and potentially cause an increase in membership fees, which I certainly don't want !!

I agree with Marcus, Just had a look on the forum main page "For Sale" section, and there's hardly anything on it, and what is there is out of date. I can understand the Webmaster not wanting to lose a source of income for the club, but of all the forums I belong to (which is many) this is probably the only one without a decent "For Sale" section where members can post pics etc. Its a bit of a shame really, it could be so much better. One way of doing it could be to charge a one off (or annual) fee for joining the forum, The Mitsi L200 owners club charge a one off fee which once paid "unlocks" all the most useful sections of the forum, like the search facility, and the for sale section. I don't know about other individuals, but I'd probably be prepared to pay a small fee to join a good forum like this one, and then you could offer it alongside the club, with a discount for joining both the club and forum, so people could choose whether to join both, or just the forum. I don't know how many club members there are, but I suspect there are more forum members (1295) than there are club members. If you made all of us pay a small fee. to use the forum, it could be quite a moneyspinner for the club.. Just a thought, tell me to shut up if you think its a bad idea.. :)

Hi it would be a great idea if someone with the IT skills could come up with a way of doing this, that way all the really rover fans would have first pickings of parts etc and that would be a good thing for the rovers out there. also keep some stuff off ebay and our members would get better deals in stead of over priced parts on ebay, and our regular suppliers could use it to sell on.
regards to you all
marcus (i missed the show and im fed up because i could nt get there)

If there was even just a function that tagged the ad with a date. That would stop me ringing up people who sold their car last year!

Why not just join the club and use the advert section?

The adverts get seen by PAYING club members first then go on the forum NON PAYING website.

As has been said before - The club does not own the website.

Or is that too simple?

The adverts get seen by PAYING club members first

Up to 2 months to get your advert in the next magazine is too slow in these days of Ebay etc
I agree with the principle of paying for your advert but does it matter if non-members see it if the result is that you get a sale ? That, after all, is the objective

I originally thought along the lines of the original club stance, but thinking about it a bit more, that isn't really what matters.
As Dave said, pay for it, but let non-member and members alike see it, the magazine is too slow on a bi-monthly cycle.

What is important to any website is the dynamic content. Content must be seen to constantly change, to never stagnate, and thereby exude the get-up-and-go attitude of the membership. The forum does that in spades, and the for-sale section could do some of that for the website.

We could even (for members, 'cos we know where they live!) have an advertise now, pay a percentage to the club on selling type arrangement for web only adverts. Probably hard to police, but an idea to get some smaller value parts sold between enthusiasts.

My Mum used to say that you could tell a lot about the people who live in a house by the state of their windows. If we let our web content go dusty, then potential members might think we don't do anything. NOTE, this is aimed at all of us and not Richard, Richard does fantastic work creating the website, it's down to the membership to supply content - not just the for sale section! (That's why I scanned the P6 Index  )

Right - I need to go and clean my own windows now!!

Hi who runs (owns) this web site then ,how was it formed ,anyone know

Obviously you have read around the forum a bit..

To recap....

Richard (Webmaster) had the foresight to register and pay for several URL's connected to the P6ROC
quite a long time back now. These were held until such a time that the Club was ready to put up a site.

There was another P6ROC site put in place by Mike Beetham ( a Founder member of the P6ROC),
using a redirect of one of Richards URL's I believe, however the site whilst good for it's time needed updating.

This was where Richard Taylor came in, he was invited down to a Committee meeting (I believe by an ex-Editor) where it was passed that he would design a new website and host it on very large servers he had access to.

The Club was offered the URL's and access to the hosting - both of which had to be paid for.
The Club declined to purchase the URL's and pay for hosting so a deal was done...

Richard retains the URL's (and pays for them and the hosting)
and gets to use the P6ROC logo on the forum
and link to it direct from the main P6ROC site.

So in effect Richard could 'Pull The Plug' at anytime....

.....mind you he won't.....

Your 'windows' are sparkling Brian.

I have had a sneak preview of the 'P6 Index' project
and it is bloody impressive to say the least...

You need to let this lot know which P6 News mags you need to complete the 'P6 Index' project.

Can you start a new thread listing the issues you need?

For those interested here is a link to the 'Very Old' Forum

It is not complete and several links do not work
but it will give you the idea of what once was there...

I agree with both "Webmaster" and "Oracle".

I hate to say it but if you've got stuff to sell, you would be better off listing it on ebay / ebid, millions of potential buyers. But of course it costs to list.....
(EDIT, ebid is free to list)
