Which Workshop?

It becomes increasingly obvious that it is hard in Germany to find a workshop able to administer the ailments of a P6 - a 2000TC 1972 in my case.

Now: My gearbox obstinately refuses to smoothly accept reverse, first and third gear. Instead of a repair I'm considering to have the box exchanged against a 5-gear box. As my wife and I are inclined to spend a fortnight in England I'm wondering if we shouldn't drop the car at a dependable workshop, hire some vehicle for a few days, enjoy your countryside, and collect my car a few days later.

My question is: Can you recommend anyone who - after advance warning - would reliably do that job. The location wouldn't really matter, as I'm fond of your landscape from Land's End, via Wales, the Lake District, up to John o'Groates.

Good question! Have you looked into 5 speed conversions for the 2 litre, and do you have any preferences as to which gearbox to use?

Are you sure it is the gearbox and not a selection problem?

The remote selector setup on the P6 is noted for becoming very imprecise once a few of the various components wear out.

I was also just about to say that - we have a 2200TC coming in shortly with similar problems and I'll wager it's the selector not the box.

Thanks for that hint, Dave and Nick.

Consulting my inch-thick repair manual (the German version, unfortunately) I still can't figure out if the remote selector is accessible from the top, or must the whole box be removed?
