Which brand of rear brake pads

Good morning gents.
How are things in the world of P6 Rover?
Things are moving along (albeit a little slow at times) with working on the old girl. In addressing the rear brake issues, I am needing to purchase a set of pads for, and would appreciate the opinions of members in regards to the brand of pad they use.
I am mainly considering Greenstuff pads.
I am after good strong braking, with strong initial bite. A reasonable lifespan is of course important.
Much appreciated

Hi Brenten

Greenstuff pads are not available for the Girling rear brakes. Even if they were, you would need to have the discs grooved in order to allow the gas build up under the pads to escape - a Greenstuff feature, without the grooves the pad floats on the gas and the performance is thereby much less than you would anticipate. So I'm afraid you are stuck with "normal" pads for the rear. Only advice I could offer then, is to buy something with a reputable brand lable, rather than a "Made in China" sticker!

Of course you could always convert back to Dunlop rear brakes, which, being common to the Jaguar E Type, have a suitably wide range of pads available!

Thats good to know Chris! I was all set to buy the Greenstuff pads.
I have been guilty in the past on skimping on quality brands, but you eventually learn you only get what you pay for.
I see quite a lot of NOS Mintex (I think) on evil bay, and associated sites. Is there better stuff available today ?...Or stick with the old stuff?

Hello Brenten,

I would recommend pads by ABL...Australian Brake Linings. They never squeal like so many pads do, they last at least 70,000km on the rear and they are not at all expensive. You do need to supply backing plates though, as they reuse them. You give them an old pair of worn out pads and they give you a new set. If you want wires, then if you supply a pair they can fit them for you too.

Ron.
