Where is this oil leak coming from

Have just recently noticed this area "oily" again...after having just cleaned it.
It is at the back of the engine...in the "valley"

Is it a gasket and an "easy fix"?

if it is the gasket, and it looks likely IMO, (there's nowt much else oily round them there bits of the engine)

IT's not too hard a job to do - inlet manifold off (keep the carbs and all that jazz attatched) new gasket, back on again. easy peasy.. Even though one of the bolts looks like it's be much easier to take the carbs off, don't be tempted, trust me, it's not. Though if they are off you can clean them up nicely etc.

Gets you nicely into the guts of the engine :)

Before you go ripping off the inlet manifold to renew the gasket, just check the rocker covers along the inner edge, the oil looks
blackish and could be from the valve-gear, if as Harvey suggests above, the crankcase breathing could be faulty, pressure will try to escape at the easiest point. Worth a check before getting too involved !

There is the possibility the oil came from the short time I was running the car without the airfilter in order to attend to the throttle linkage.
Got it back on now...so will moniter.

As an aside, is it normal for a change in "tone"/"revs" from the engine when the oil filler cap is removed?
I noticed when I removed it the other day that the engine "picked up' in its revs and felt under less "duress".
Upon refastening, it "bogged"back down ever so slightly.
Is this a sign of positive cravkcase pressure (good thing), or a restriction? (bad thing).

My car's revs drop ever so slightly when the filler cap's removed.. Not sure why that should be. I've just cleaned out the breather conection at the back, fitted a new breather filter, and new flame traps to mine though.
