Having replaced both engine mounts on my V8 in Sept 2010 whilest doing the topend rebuild, the left hand side has already parted from the bottom plate..I noticed as on pulling away the car would make a noise similar to a hatch being opened in the floor & the road noise comming in, baffled, I took a look underneath on ramps, no loose exhaust, no hatch in the floor  , but I saw a witness mark on the exhaust section that runs in line with the autobox sump and could see where it was hitting the floor lip from the trans tunnel, lifting the engine saw no movement but grabbing both down pipes & I could see the left mount seperating from the metal base :x what sh* te I thought as these have only covered about 1~1500k .., I did think of removing it, drilling a hole right through & fitting a threaded rod inside & refitting but it would a kind of solid mount & engine noise comming thru the car, so anyone recomend a good quality engine mount please

Cheers Damian

Hey up,

Whilst you cant tell us who supplied these on the forum I'd suggest you give the supplier a call and see what they say. Less than 2 years if fitted properly is not what youd call fit for purpose under the sale of goods act.

Hi Damian,

You do have the engine torque rod in place, set up nice and firm with good bushes don't you? The left hand mount can fail if this isn't the case.

Have you had the transmission removed since the new mounts were fitted?

Ron.

Hi Guys,

Engine mounts were fitted correctly, I guess there is no real way of getting it wrong is there ?

Ron, the engine torque rod is in place, didn't renew the bushes, whilst there not totally shot, they could be better, gear box mount is ok, havent removed it from the car at all since I bought it, no real bad play but ideally renwing this and the torque bar bushes will help improve stability.

Pierre is his actual name, phone number sent on PM, not sure if he'd want me putting it on here.
I had a set of early mounts for my 1969 car from him a while ago and they were excellent.
Cheers
Nick
