Welding / Rear Wheelarch Inner Wing Repairs - Replace or Repair

Both the rear inner wings are rotten through from inside the boot so you can see the wheel through the hole, right round from the boot floor up to the fuel tank.

How easy is it to repair, using a gas/mig welder, would anyone know the best settings for this gauge steel before we start?

If you have any examples of success using your own patches, or had to buy replacements, please help.

If your not used to welding, then the best thing to do would be to practice on some scrap first and take it from there. Are you taking the rear wings off to do it?

BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!! BIT LATE WITH PETROL TANK REMOVAL ADVICE.

I'm in the same position. Both my inner rear wings have rusted through - and I took the outer ones off the other day to look at the damage.

I have never done any car bodywork welding (although I have done a basic MIG welding course) and am wondering how easy it is to do the job on the car.

The corrosion is in the wheel arches - which JR Wadhams has in stock - and also the top and bottom sections of the splash panel also requires replacing. There is quite a bit of corrosion in the actual inner wing area below the rubber sealing strip that goes between inner and outer wings. This corrosion is mainly in the flange around the curved wheel arch area and also on the vertical panel leading up from it. Does anyone know a source of rear inner wing repair panels as JRW doesn't seem to have any in the catalogue.

And how easy is it to do the repair for a beginner?
