V8 vacuum advance unit

It depends what dizzy you've got..there are a few variations in the advance curves. There will be a 2 lots of numbers engraved on your vac unit, first one will be something like 5 16 5 which means it starts operating at 5" Mercury...stops at 16", and yields 5 degrees of advance. Second number will be something like 544247 which is the Lucas ref.

However, its possible your vac may have been replaced at sometime in the past 30-odd years so it may not be the right spec anyway! A better bet would be to get the number of your dizzy as well, which will be something like 41393A. This is engraved on the side nearest the top hose, just below the dizzy cap. (You might need a mirror to check it!)

Armed with this, drop an email to Martin at >Distributor Doctor< or call him and he'll fix you up with the one you definitely need. Earlier this year he was charging £29.50 + VAT for vacuum units.

Cheers,
