Running on 7 cylinders, oil coming from #1 sparkplug hole. v8 uses 1/2 pt of oil in 400 miles and slight smoke from exhaust. any ideas?!!!

I think your engine is sick. Sounds like the piston rings have gone. Does number 1 spark plug come out oily ?
I think you need to take the head off and have a look at the bores. You may get away with new rings/a new piston or you may be better off with a good 2nd hand engine
Good luck

sparkplug is black and oily. If you look down sparkplug hole there is about 1/2" of oil on top of piston.

Hi All
Sounds like a busted oil control ring, or a blown valve stem seal. Oil in the combustion chambers usually equals big$$$$.
I think the heads will have to come off to fix this one and probably a full stripo and rebuild.
GUY:(

Do these engines have valve stem oil seals? there is no sign of any and you don't get them with the top end gasket sets?

That sounds like an awful lot of oil in No 1 cylinder I'm surprised the engine turns over
Is it possible that if the inlet manifild /valley gasket had broken, oil could get into the cylinder from the timing case via the inlet port ??? (Just wondering)
I think the answer is "Off with it's head"
