V8 dual or single brake system ??

Good morning,

after the transfer ride from the Netherlands, still no km on the road and the work goes on..
My 1974 V8 auto also has a slaggy brake pedal, which means, only the very fragile spring holds back the pedal and if you start brake action, the first 3-4 cm is an empty way. The former owner had given the car to a restoration garage because the last 15 years it had not too much time on the road. New vacuum servo, brake hoses, overhauling the rear calipers, new pads on all brakes. The brake action itself is ok, but the feeling with 3-4 cm way at the beginning having no "resistance" is a little bit strange. I´ve read threads in the forum, so I´ve learned, the adjustable rod at the pedal is only to adjust height of the pedal. At the moment, brake pedal is approx 1 cm above level of the throttle pedal. I think, I must bleed the system again, but I´ve read about a single and a dual system :?:
What is meant with it and how do I see what my car has (i.e. one or two lines from the master cylinder ?).
I think, this has influence on how the system must be bleeded.
By the way, the brake warning light is also flickering. If it is this cork swimmer in the fluid reservoir, how can I open the (crimped) top cap to replace it ?

Set the pedal height before you do anything else. A picture of the servo will show whether it's a single or dual line system. If it's had all that brake work then the chances are that if you have a poor pedal then it's a result of the work not being done properly.

I didn't notice a master cylinder in the list of work done, it could be as simple as rebullding/renewing the master. I say simple in a relative manner. It is still a P6 of course.

Yours
Vern

Here are the photos of the vacuum servo unit and the main cylinder.
If the main cylinder was i.e. overhauled or not, I do not know, it´s not a new one, you can see.

I´ve adjusted the brake pedal height. In a post of harvey I´ve read 6,5" from the body to the bottom of the pedal.
This is approx 16,5 cm. I have given 1,5 cm for the carpet, so I have adjusted the rod, see picture.
That was around the previous height.
I tried the rod screwing nearly completely in (pedal comes out), the curious thing is, then the pedal is tight means ok.
I can´t understand this....

You're measuring the wrong way, you need to pull the footwell carpet out, and measure vertically from the bottom of the pedal down to the metal of the base unit.

There´s always a 50/50 chance...
Ok, after my windscreen desaster (post in bodywork) I will try this tomorrow. Thanks again, you are a remarkable specialist :!:
