Hi All,
A little while back my brother (D16 PJM - Pete) posted the pics of his newest acquisition, a 1971 P6 in Zircon Blue. You may have noticed that he advertised it on Ebay shortly after. Anyway, there was a genuine reason for this, he was taken ill and as he had just changed jobs he received no sick pay. Thus the car had to go.
Now I had seen the car at our parents and taken it round the block (twice because I liked it so much) but was not really in the market for a classic car. I also had a holiday coming up so could not really afford it. Anyway, long story short, seeing it advertised made me realise I would quite like to own it., so I bought it from him on the promise of giving him first refusal if I sell.
I have had a few classics before, the last being a Morris traveller. I sold it cheap just before values soared.
The Rover is on another level. Great to drive, really comfortable, and the same age as me. What is a bonus is my 14 year old son has been out helping me fettle it, we added the rear belts that were in the boot and cleaned out the washer bottle and pipes. It still has the vibration at about 50 mph, we greased the front UJ and had a look at the other joints, but I think this weekend we will swap the wheels round as the vibration only comes form the back, so we may be able to eliminate the tyres.
We took the car to Newbury show ground this weekend, there was a classic rally in aid of a Cancer charity. It was a really good family day out, the car got lots of positive comments too. I am in the Oxford area so may try to get to the Buckinghamshire railway centre in a couple of weeks time.
Right, must stop rambling now,
Mike
