Series 2 Ignition Switch

My S2 P6b wants to turn off while driving- very disconcerting.
Ive tried electrical WD40 on the terminals- nah
So Im sure I need to replace the ignition switch on my P6b- ie steering lock model.
I can get a good 2nd hand switch.
Ive got the workshop manual but no reference to removing the switch from the rear of the barrel.
Can it be done insitu or do I need to remove the whole steering column and/or just ignition switch and steering lock?
Looks like a job for a midget contortionist who likes to do stuff on his back.

The switch is independently fitted into the lock so no need to remove it or the column. Two very small screws hold the switch into the lock & they can be a PITA to remove.

S2 Ignition Switch.
thats sort of a relief - but its really dark and cramped up there.
I will go dwarf hunting and shove him up there with a screwdriver.
Does the switch fall into a million pieces when its removed insitu coz that would create a whole new ball game?
Just getting all my ducks in a row before ripping out seats and knee bins

It only falls apart if you take it out wrongly, like l did. ISTR I prised it out in frustration before l knew about the little screws. You can open it up to fault-find when you have it out.

Hi guys
Last question before Xmas
I have limited knowledge when it comes to electrical wiring.
Ive removed the complete ignition/switch/lock unit from the steering column. I just found the space too cramped in/under the dash for my big agricultural frame to fiddle about with small screws and exploding switches.
Ive cleaned up the contacts with emery paper and sprayed around some modern day electrical contact lube. It was very dry and gunked up in there.
Put it all back together and get good electrical contact except the engine firing on the last movement #3. The key increment 1,2,3, movements has def improved in the barrel.
Could there be a "dry" contact in the switch unit? Bearing in mind the engine did fire before pulling the switch out -but then died when I released the key. So Im not thinking starter motor or earth.
Does the blue singular 7th wire attach to something under the dash. It was floating free when the ignition was removed.
Sourcing a new unit has been uneventful as its the seven wire switch, c/f 4 wires at Rimmers etc.
Has someone on here a good secondhand switch I can purchase [ to NZ] -Just the white unit with the seven wires held in by the two grub screws.
Merry Xmas
Gerald

The blue wire is for NADA models, it's the warning buzzer when the keys are left in the ignition.
I suppose a dry joint is possible, yours looks decidedly grubbier than mine was so l never had to go that far.

Thanks for the blue wire mystery solving.
I visited my local vintage car club today and the place is overloaded with experts esp in the field of auto electronics ,mechanical engineering ,vehicle design, paint resto etc. All retired from the 9am- 5pm grind but still itching to roll their sleeves up.
The first guy I complained to about my ignition switch led me to a work bench and asked me to take the white section off. Immediately he said "there's ya problem" that brass hoop is upside down. Took him about 2 secs to see it. I have been looking at it for three weeks and scratching my head trying to find a replacement. 2 secs -really
So I inverted the hoop ,popped the switch into ignition unit and the P6 and fired up and stayed fired up.
Woop Woop.
