Rover 3500 Parts - Series 1 & 2 V8 Service Parts

In the past, every time that I have purchased a service item (points, plugs, filters, brakes, hoses, seal kits, fan belts, gaskets, suspension joints etc.) for my Rover 3500 (series 1 and series 2) cars I have recorded the part numbers in a database for future reference. This is very handy for alternative part numbers that will fit, e.g. Ford Granada alternator, Zodiac brake pads etc.
For instance, it proves very handy when trawling through a local auto jumble.
If you have any manufacturers name / part number / other ref / will it fit series 1 and / or series 2 ? etc for any service items for V8 auto models I would appreciate the info' towards building my database.
Thank you, in anticipation. Regards, John.

John,

are you only interested in V8 parts?

You will know about the rover/bl family parts which swap over there is a p6 news which gives landrover parts which can be used.

Clutch slave 2000 or 2200. new item cost me £16 because it was a pre-83 mini item. Motor factors are more likly to list it, if you have ever had to expllain what a p6 is you will know. (obviously not for automatics, LOL)

Arthuy,
Well, as I've only ever owned 3500 models I've tended to collect only these part numbers - Bit sad I know, must get out more!
Regards, John.

John,

this data base sounds interesting.

there will be similar parts to all p6 models.

Have you got them listed and cross reference on an excel spread sheet?

this could be a serious tool for Reg. Co's.

For interest when I am in halfords I check their listings for p6. then flick through the other cars til I find other cars. bit limited to brakes, filters and the likes.

Arthuy,
I have 129 items listed so far - Any parts available get make / numbers and advise will add to my list. Can publish copy or send you a laminated version for reference.
regards, John.

Hi John,

If you could send me an electronic copy word, excel etc then I can see what you have got to save repeating. Nothing worse than having an anorak tell you what you already know.

I have a few things to mind for the list.

John,

I meant to say I have a note of cars which share the same size of flexi hoses with the p6.

I'd love an electronic copy of this list if one is available. Or a paper copy if more convenient. I'll pay any costs of course. Or how about publishing it in the mag? I'm sure many members would find it useful.

I think its about time we had a "technical data" section to the website, with this sort of information, along with the basics like tyre pressures, spark plug types etc, right down to torque wrench settings ??

Anybody got suggestions, and possible sources for all the required information ?

If people can supply it, then I can get it on the site.

Richard

My parts database has been compliled over many years and so is a rather old-fashioned Microft Works Database with a file type of .wdb. When printed it covers both sides of an A4 sheet which I then laminate and carry in the car ready for those autojumbles - Send me any items/numbers that you have collected and it may grow to a small volume - who knows?
Regards, John.
p.s. Perhaps I could get Peter to print it in the P6 NEWS.

John,

I don't think that the .wbd files are so common now.

I would be happy if you would like me to put it into an excel format. and help compile the eventual list which is to be published.

Do you have excel on your computer? they are quite easy to use once you have a few goes. the beauty is you can tailor a complete list to a part like brakes or a model at the click of a button. this can also be printed out or saved to disk.

Dear Nick (rovermorris999),
If you send me £2 (to cover printing, laminating and postage costs) then I will send you a laminated A4 copy thro' the post to keep you going until the publication in P6 NEWS is sorted (if ever). Address in front of our magazine.
Regards, John.

Hello everybody. I just unearthed this thread, and it seems this information would be very, very helpful. did it ever get posted anywhere? Does anyone have it in a form they could email? Thanks
George

This would collect all sorts of info which is on this forum in various places eg battery sizes that fit in the V8's box
Maestro /Montego diesel oil filters fit the V8
The V8 air filter is one that fits all sorts of 1960's family cars but we need to know modern alternatives, if there are any
I bought a clutch slave cylinder from a supplier in the magazine and it looks suspiciously like ones sold in Classic Ford for much less. I had to change the pushrod etc to make it fit

As a newbie to the world of old brit stuff, I'd love to have some info to hand like this. Did it ever appear in the mag?
