Rover 2000tc Valve Shims

Hello,

Does anyone know where I would be able to get a selection of different valve clearance shims. This is the final job I need to do before I can get my 1971 2000tc up and running.

Many Thanks,

Chris

You're best to check the clearances, then measure the old shims and calculate what new ones you need. You may be lucky to find a job lot of shims to buy, but as a general rule the same shims seem to be used a lot of the time. Once you've worked out what you need I should be able to supply them if you haven't found any others by then.

If you are very lucky you may be able to move the shims around to get the required clearances.

I've got a box of them, some original, some homemade for when I did my 2000SC years ago.. I can dig them out and let you know what I've got if you want.

Hi There,

Thanks for your relpies. I am not sure as yet what sizes I need, I plan to look into this on Saturday and will post over the weekend the sizes I need.

If either of you are able to help me out It would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

Does this suggest you can use something like feeler blades to make shims ?

No, but you could turn down a thick shim on a lathe to reduce the size, the only problem with that being that it will remove any surface hardening which they are likely to have.

Hi, I have checked the clearances and only have one suitable shim combination!

Hopefully someone will be able to help me out.

I need shims sized:

0.322
0.083
0.302 (x2)
0.076 (x2)
0.272
0.102
0.292 (x2)
0.083
0.282
0.081
0.082

I realise that this is quite a list but if anyone can help out it would be much appreciated

Thanks,

Chris
