Replacement Camshaft Kits & Lifter pre-load

Hi all, I'm thinking of purchasing a replacement camshaft kit for my 1972 3500S (10.5:1 compression ratio engine), and wondered if anyone on the forum had already bought or fitted the new ' Torque-Max' camshaft from RPi International (well known V8 engine specialists) in Norfolk.
I was originally going to fit the standard cam, as I was not that fussy for either a mild/fast road camshaft - I did not want to compromise engine flexibility, and I do not rev. the engine that hard - but this camshaft from 'Piper Cams' seems to have been designed to maximise torque across the lower and mid-parts of the rev range, and that does appeal to me.
I know that there are a myriad of choices when it comes to camshafts, and that it is basically a compromise between outright bhp and flexibility across the rpm range.
The other aspect of this has been the discovery of the need to check the 'lifter pre-load' when re-building the engine with the new cam & lifters. This appears on the RPi web site, and in Hardcastle's book 'Tuning Rover V8 engines', but does NOT appear to be in the Rover workshop manuals.
If anybody has some experience in this area, I would welcome your views and any tips you may have.
Thanks, Dave. :)

Dave,
That's a fair bet! I am sure this kit has been used by members but the majority are not on the website yet and some of those who are are still a little shy. I can't help you on this one.
Regards, John.
