I have just purchaced a new complete carpet from wadhams( V8 Auto)and it looks great. But being disabled before I start the removal can I be re-assured that there are no problems for example removing the gear selector Knob & button so as to remove the centre consul.

many thanks John

Hardest part of removing the console will be getting the handbrake gaiter off over the lever .Try squirting WD40 under the rubber before pulling it too hard

I prefer Fairy liquid much more slippery and doesnt do rubber any harm

"Hands that do dishes etc " !

John, On a serious note. Some years ago I fitted a Wadhams carpet set to my "S" and the only part that I had difficulty getting to look neat was at the bottom of the A post (front of front doors) where it meets the door sill and rolls around the corner, it took quite a bit of manipulation and dexterity-even resorted to scissors- plus adhesive, to get it looking as it should. :D

Very satisfying when its done though and they are wearing well (with over mats to keep grubby shoes off the prestine carpet) you will not regret the expenditure.

Unable to advise on auto gear lever as I have never owned an auto anything.

thanks all for the comments I will update as soon the carpet has been fitted. I looked at the spare parts catalogue and it it looks as if the auto knob just unscrews .

regards john

Looks as if I may have to get my son to fit as he can get down on the ground to remove & fit

Having refitted 2 of my own carpets from raw material and seen a pre-packaged set as you described fitted into a friend's 3500 S, I would say this:
1. Remove the carpet from the backing if at all possible and install the underlay first on all but the two mats that go the length of the floor.
2. Then, spray the two surfaces with a spray adhesive that doesn't dry like contact cement
3. You need the flexibility to stretch some of the carpet and prehaps create slits or narrow pie-shaped cutout to make all the curves needed

With the carpet attached to the underlay already you have very little flexibility on the compound curves.

My Son relayed the new carpets over the weekend and what a job it turned out to be.
the main problem after fitting the old underlay was getting the carpet sit flat it is of such good quality the jigsaw of parts were very heavy we had to cut slit in most parts to get a good shape but the most difficult part was to get the tunnel to sit ok in particular at the rear after the seat belt anchores.

But it looks great now and all the hard work worth while, with many thanks to my son .

regards John
