Remember your first P6 experience?

Hi all my first experience was well im told i was driven home in my dads 1968 series 1 rover as a new born baby in aug 1968, we owned the car until 1974 when the rover series 2 was purchased, so at the age of six and with all my brothers and sisters would have great days out in the rover summer fun, the 1968 series one was kept as a just in case car , then in 1977 my dad got a new rover series 2 a 2.2 tc i remember and i would wash this car every saturday for pocket money , we still had the 1968 rover for just in case then at the age of 14 my dad change his car to a volvo 240 but we still had the series 1 , and i started to learn to drive in the series one at the age of 16 , after lots of lessons and 4 instructors i passed , and i was going to have the rover series 1 as my first car , which lived at my grans , we went to pick it up one day saturday i think and as we drove round the corner a fire engine came passed , wonder were thats going Yes it was a car fire the rover was in flames , no not electrical some kids were bored, so that was that, i had loads of cars after that then one day i was wanting a rover as i have fond memories of them , my late brother :( and i would sit for hours in the rover talking about when we were men how we would own these big cars , will i made it to manhood so i own my rosie for us both, so last year on my 40th year i purchased rover a 1971 series 2 2000 sc and i love here for lots of reasons , but im busy welding her up , my plan is to own her till i meet my end and see my brother again, i will have lots to tell him,
anyway i just love the smells and the looks of her , and well my dad has got a 42000 miler unwelded series 2 so he can relive those big boss days again and he wants the rover to be the last car he drives into old age , so thats a nice way to end your driving life i think. and what a sight when you go into the garage , wonderful
kind regards
marcus
merry xmas

Probably not the first time I ever saw a P6 but certainly the first memory that is stuck firmly in my mind is in the early 70's while a passanger in my parents car (a 1950's Humber Super Snipe or it may have been our 1957 Hudson Hornet) passing a Rover and caravan combination, the Rover was a fantastic pastel tone of colour that and the flowing lines of the body work embedded itself in my consiousness, (jeremy clarkson would have a fit, bloody caravans lol) funny thing is for many years I could have told you the exact colour of the Rover but with time and frequency of see other beautiful Rover colours I can remember weather it was a pastel green or the mustard though am fairly sure it was the green. Those refreshing colours were such a change from cars that were around at the time and the lines of the Rover that are so reminiscent of continental European design (read citroen) the Rovers just shone out for me.

Around 1987 my dad bought an ex-city of London 3500s. White with mango cloth interior.

I never remember going anywhere in it as it was not in the family for long but I did help fit a Britax child seat in the rear on dark winter night.

That was it until I was talking about them to a guy at work in 2001 and he showed me a white V8 for sale nearby on ebay.

My first real involvement with P6's was in 1973 when I hit a newish 3500 with my Corsair V4 at South Lane New Malden
My Corsair was bent like a banana , the Rover had frontal damage as designed - it had folded progressively
Not my finest hour ...

My first P6 experience was about 1971, when I was 11. My dad had always driven an MG VA saloon. When he took it 'off the road for a minor restoration (he sold the car to a friend before he got it finished) he was looking for a car of equal, or better, quality to replace it.
He arrived home with a 1968 zircon blue 2000 TC. An excellent car which he kept for about 2 years before he replaced it with a 1968 Three Thousand Five. Around the time he got this, he bought another Three Thousand Five (1969) which he kept in storage until 1982. During it's time in storage (in his body shop) it was updated to series 2 spec. (externally) and it acquired 'Star Wars' murals. This sort of thing was all the rage then. This was the car he drove every day until he died in 1986 at the age of 62.

After his death I got this car and used it every day up until 1996. It was converted back to series 1 spec. in 1988 and I still have it in regular use.

The 'Star Wars' murals are gone, although I still have the bonnet hanging on my garage wall.

Glad you've still got the Bonnet, I had Star Wars wallpaper as a kid, nagged my parents for ages to get it.
