Hi to all
has anyone had a door that’s locked closed and won’t open
the car came with this problem and short of cutting the door trim I can’t see a way to open it.
hopefully there a bright spark out there that can help
TIA Regards Paul

Hi
thanks Phil it is shut fast from both sides, the locking mechanism is jammed solid
and the button on the outside side won’t depress also the handle inside moves a little but has no effect
hope that explains things a bit better thank you for the input regards paul

Id try spraying a heap of WD40 around in there from the top and on the handle spindles.
Give everything a good soaking
Walk away for a week and try those gentle movements on those handles again.
Things may work in your favour.

Unscrew the lock button, remove the veneer strip then unscrew the black top panel. That will give you some access to the door interior.

Hard with the door closed. You could break the veneer out, and probably get the plastic top out though. But I’m not sure it’ll make things much better, there is a closing panel under that covering up most of the top of the door.

Vern

Thinking about it, I recall this happening years ago with Hazel.

I think you can actually remove the door card with the door closed, but be very careful as it can break the lower lip of the top black capping trim. I did this, then found it very difficult to find a replacement as Hazel is one of those one-season-only 'through flow' ventilation cars, & the capping trim doesn't have a cut-out for an opening quarterlight. :(

Once you've got the card off (you'll obviously need to unscrew the handle & remove the winder & opener), you should be able to get your hand in & move the linkages or move the back of the door catch itself.

With the front door open you can undo the rear door hinges. Then you just pull the front of the door out, this will release it from the stricker. As soon as this happens, hang again the door on the hinges, because you cannot remove it completely before disconnecting the check strap.

I had this while fettling the shut, maybe not as bad but the button was inactive and the door was well shut. In the end with the button pressed and pulling hard upwards (a lot) on the handle while opening got it open by just getting a smidge of clearance. I was very relieved at that point.

Thanks one and all I will be trying all the suggestions this coming week and hopefully be able to post the end result
thanks once again for all the help
regards Paul

As promised
success I’ve managed to open the rear door
I wound the window down wedged the door gap open a little
And with a pair of very long nosed pliers removed the link rod that operates the lock
then using some wire hooked the rod out so I could operate it by hand
eventually managed to unlock the door
now just left with stripping the mechanism and refitting it correctly
hope this helps regards paul

Thanks but all well that ends well
considering the wadhams door cards now mine are very scruffy
watch this space I’ll send pictures

I bought those door cards and was a bit worried how they would look when they arrived. They are fantastic, at least the black ones I got. Highly recommended if you are on the fence.
