I've just spotted a fantastic story in today's Newcastle Journal, an elderly Doctor from Gosforth (just down the road from me) has recently died & his Nephew has been given the task of clearing out his garages & found a 1937 Bugatti Type 57S Atlante which it is estimated could fetch six million at auction. That would be a hell of a Christmas Pressie

hia colin u miss that one it would go well with you p6 . i wonder how many cars there is sitting about waiting to be found in garages .andy

It's amazing what turns up on your own doorstep, many years ago when I lived in Morpeth an old dear down the street passed away & there turned out to be a garage tucked away behind her house & a great big old Lagonda Saloon was pulled out & ended up in a museum.
Another one was at a place called East Mill in Morpeth where an elderly gent lived who had some tumbled down wooden buildings full of old motors, there were fabric bodies from Rolls-Royces & Lagondas suspended from the rafters a Bedford CA Workabus with 12,000 miles on which turned into a flat pack due to rust, there was an armoured car which was actually a Silver Ghost with a wooden body on it used for film work, he had a 1930s Alfa Romeo racing car which sold for £440,000 a RR Twenty Tourer & a Phantom Limousine of the 20s or 30s, there was a 1930's Rover Pickup a Gordon 3 wheeler an old Land-Rover & a BSA 3 wheeler which when asked would he sell it replied "well you don't sell your 21st Birthday present do you"

It's been on TV over the weekend, apparently quite a few people knew it was there and wanted to buy it, but the doctor wouldn't even talk to them.

There's a retired farmer in Morpeth has a one of the famous blue racing Bugatti's which he's owned for years, it's got brass plaques on the dashboard from races it won at the likes of Le-Mans & apparantly it's one of 3 fitted with a Hallford engine, one's in a museum somewhere (America I think) & the other is at the bottom of the sea so that's got to be worth more than a tenner.
