pinking - 10.5:1 = pink, pink, pinking......

While my engine is in bits I thought I would try to do something about the pinking.
The easiest thing for me to do would be to drop the compression ratio a smidge and then tweak the timing. There are two ways I could attempt this.
1) I have a set of 9.35:1 pistons I could fit (assuming they will fit. I haven’t tested them)
2) Use a composite head gasket (original tin gasket is 0.5mm the composite is 1.2mm)
Does anyone have any other suggestions or views on this?

9.35 (SD1 I presume) pistons should fit OK

Composite head gaskets should lower the CR to about 9.5:1

However if you run good quality petrol with an additive containing octane booster you should be able to run 10.5:1 with a slight adjustment of the timing.

Pete,

I noticed in your response to Mike Griffith’s petrol and water query, that you’re running 9.35:1 (SD1 pistons?). You also mention in an answer to one of my earlier questions that you have a Mallory dizzy (twin points).

If I were to go all the way during my rebuild, what modifications would you suggest I should make to my V8 to make it run smoother on modern fuels?
