Parking Lights - Rear not working

Hello all,

1971 2000TC Series 2

When I switch lights multi-function switch to the 'park' position, I only get the front off-side light illuminating. I know the rear off-side light should also be on at this time and I was wondering if any members could enlighten me on where might be best to look.

I've checked the switch and there is only one wire connected to the 'park' setting which should be (somewhere hidden in the loom) connecting both the front and rear off-side lights but I don't know where.

During normal operation all lights work perfectly - except in the 'park' position.

Any light you can shed on this would be appreciated :)

Many thanks
Brian.

Guys,

I'd like to bump this topic back to the top of the list :)
I've had another look at the light switch (this is a series 2 TC with the same central switch layout as the 3500) and checked the connections on the switch.

When the switch is in the PARK postition, only the F/O/S light comes on.
When the switch is in the SIDE position, all lights come on.

Behind the switch there are two connections that control this, I'll call them them L1 and L2 for now.
In the PARK position, L1 is live.
In the SIDE position, L1 and L2 are live.

If I disconnect L1:
In the PARK position, nothing comes on
In the SIDE position, F/N/S and both rear lights come on.

If I disconnect L2 (reconnect L1)
In the PARK position, F/O/S comes on
In the SIDE position, F/O/S comes on

Can anyone shed any light (sorry for the pun) on this at all......

The car has been in my family since new ('71) and I do not believe that anyone has had the dash out to meddle with the wires. It is possible that something may have been tampered with elsewhere in the car (wings changed etc) but I don't believe that the problem lies as far out as the wiring in the wings.

At the very least, can someone tell me how their parking lights work.

thanks,
Brian.

P.S. Boy am I fed up of this rain. Hope the comittee have booked some good weather for the Duxford rally. I feel all set for a good Rover "do" and AGM all in one.
Hope you're all coming to both. I did my first AGM last year (normaly very lazy !!) and found it enlightening.

My guess would be the rear side lamps have been both connected to the nearside feed. Which could be at the rear or at the connecter to the rear loom in the drivers footwell A pillar. If it has some work done on the sills then its likely the loom will have been removed and not connected correctly.
Does it have a trailer socket?

Many thanks for your reply Tony,

I have had work done to the sills (haven't we all!) very soon after I inherited the car which could well answer why I've never known them to work properly.

OK, so now I'll burrow into the drivers footwell looking for the connector. This is exactly what I was expecting the problem to be, but I had no idea where to look.

If the weather stays fine tomorrow, I'll get on to it ....... after I've finished painting underseal, after all, I don't want to have the sills done again!!

Many thanks again.
Brian.
