Hi,

Wondered if any one has had this problem...I have a 71 Mexico Brown 2000TC that recently developed weird drip marks like dried rain on the bonnet, except they will not come off. I did manage to remove them with colour restorer and a good wax....but now they're back!

The paintwork is in good condition....can any one advise???

Thanks in advance,

Kev............. ??? :O

I too have this problem with my Mexico Brown V8. Do you find that this happens after a rain shower, then the sun bakes down on to the car straight away?
My car has been repainted in cellulose at some point, and although the car is still very shiny, it needs constant polishing to keep it that way, as the paint is now old. Modern 2-pack finishes are far better, and last much longer.
When you polish the car, do you wind up with Mexico Brown cloths like I do? ???

The best polish I have found for removing this is made by 3M. It's called "Finnesse It". This polish is free from amonia, and silicon, and is very mildly abbrasive. It is far better than any of the "T-Cut" type products out there at the moment. To get this polish, you will need to visit one of your local motor factors, as motorist shops do not keep it. I'm afraid the only long term cure for this is to repaint the affected panels, or the complete car.
You can PM me some images of the affected paintwork if you like, and I'll see if you do have the same problem as me. :D

I have the same problem with my Mexico Brown 2000, Browns and Maroons suffer more with this problem which is due to pigment breakdown through age.

I think its definately more common with cellulose paint, my old convertible suffered, and needed a quick t-cut and wax every year.

Thanks for the tip Erik, I'll get some of that polish. I can't post a pic at the moment as I don't have a digital camera (or a camera good enough for the detail) Originally I thought it might be the car cover thats on it during the week, but at least I know now that it's a common problem. Thanks to all who replied. Much appreciated.

Kev.

By the way. I do get Mexico Brown cloths after polishing!

It can't be unique to old cars with cellulose paint There's a H reg 1991 VW Polo in my road . Non metallic red paint faded to pink ,nearly white on the roof

Fords and Vauxhalls also suffer from this. Most cars built after the mid 90's were painted using base coat and lacquer, including non metallics. This way the colour doesn't fade.
If you have a P6 that lives out in the elements all it's life, especially in a colour that's prone to fading, I would use this option, rather than use a standard solid colour finish.
