Oil Pressure Light

Hi everyone,

Hopefully some of you can help me.
Today I started the V8 for the first time in 5 months to prepare for Duxford.

Everything is fine apart from the oil pressure light comes on when the engine is at idle. The level is spot on - is this a big problem? Also what should the pressure gauge read when the engine is running?

Lastly the brake pedal is rock hard - are there any common faults or should look at the servo/master cylinder?

Sorry for all the questions but its my first P6 to go on the road and i'm still finding my way with it.

Thanks
Flyboy

I read somewhere that Oil light flickering at tickover is reasonably common (maybe even in another thread ages ago?). Mine is about 10-15psi at tickover but goes to above mid point on the dial above that.

Hopefully one of our brake experts can help you on the other question! I guess rock hard brake pedal is better than dropping to the floor (which was my problem recently! )

I'm sure it's in the handbook that the oil light coming on at tickover is acceptable, providing you have a reading on the guage. (Providing the guage is reasonably accurate.)

The hard brake pedal is more than likely the servo, but check the vacuum hose first.

Thanks Zebedee,

You're right about the brake pedal - they work a bit but not enough for the MOT me thinks........

The oil pressure warning light is set to come on, activated by the switch on the oil pump front cover, when the pressure falls within the region of 8 to 10psi or less. It will remain on till the pressure exceeds the higher value.

Ron.
