Oil pickup changes

I have an SD1 oil pump pick up now, and it has a brace on it, meant to bolt to a stud on main cap #4. Interesting part is that the P6B engines dont have any sort of brace, and neither do the later Disco 3.9 engines - have one on a stand. Anybody have any idea why the SD1 might have needed a brace, when models before and after didnt use one? The 3.9 has a tapped hole in main cap#4 to take a stud. I cant find a pic of the P6B main caps, but would guess they dont have a thread in cap #4. Safe to fit without brace?
The Sd1 pick up tube is 13mm ID, the 3.9 galleries are 15mm. The 3.9 pick up inlet is 25mm, the screen inside is 65mm. The Sd1 inlet is 100mm, screen 90mm, (same as P6B?) replacable.

The deep part or well of the sump on P6b is in the middle of the sump, the well on the SD1 is at the rear. There will be more leverage from the pick up screen because the pick up pipe is longer. It's probably done to alleviate any fatigue in it. If you're worried, fabricate a brace from a main bearing cap bolt.
