Not another kiwi!

Hi, I also have just joined, having been enjoying all the awesome info. and photos that are posted here. I live in Te Anau, which is on the border of Fiordland and Southland, at the bottom of the South Island of New Zealand. We are many a tourist town, due to our location to lakes and mountains. Check us out on google earth. My pride and joy (most times) is a 1974 Rover P6B (monza red, of course) presently being fitted with a V8 Developments stage 3 long engine, with Eddy 500, preformer, home made tubler exhaust manifolds,21/2" system, etc. mated to rebuilt Lt77 wih 16lb. flywheel and hd clutch package. I've got a lot to do yet till I get on the road.Body needs some work, but that can wait till later. The info. here has helped alot. This is my first project. Any advice much appreciated. Enough said, look forward to "meeting" you guy's, and sharing any tips I might have for you. Regaurds, Eric. :D :D

Giday Eric, yep another Kiwi :D would love to see some pictures of your P6B, like you I have the 500 fitted as well but my install has come with complications :? never mind I will sort it one way or the other. My P6B was registersd in 1975 but is a late 74 manufacture and also like yours is red as my avatar will show. Hopefully at some stage we will meet and compare cars in the flesh rather than in the ether. Do you go up to CHCH for the vintage swap meet?,. Last time I had my Rover down your way was about 1988-89 visiting the wifes relatives in Beaumont as part of the grand tour Nelson to Waitangi and then down to Queenstown and environs, several thousand KM's of asphalt covered on that 3 or 4 week excursion.
I think you will find this a valuable resource with owners who are generational (had mine since 88).

Cripes, theres another one of 'em. :D Welcome Eric. Sounds like it'll be a quick car when it's done. I too have had nothing but grief from the Edelbrock 4bbl and will probably be going back to SUs soon. But my engine is quite mild compared to yours so it maybe more suited to a more radical build.
I don't get to the SI myself very often but there seem to be a lot of nice cars down there.

Hey I just realised that in my engine decription, I forgot to say that it's a V8D stage3 4.6l engine, not a 3.5. I'm now looking here in N.Z. for a Jag IRS 2.88:1 ratio, power lock, unit to replace suspect rover unit. Anybody know of any around? When they appear they go quick, and not to cheaply! I could be looking for months, may have to go O/seas. :( :( The sun is shineing and it's hot here :D :D , think I'll get out in it before it go's.Hpe you all have a great day! :) :) Eric.

Jag IRS

Cheapest in the USA + not hard to find there either

You could try advertising for one on: http://www.britishv8.org/
You could either airfreight one in or find an importer in NZ that imports container loads of Yank parts + ask to consolidate with one of their shipments ( typically ex West Coast ) I know Segedins+ Geddes Speed in Auckland used to source parts by request
Either way, you'll source quicker + cheaper than trying to find one in NZ
You may need to consider fitting a bigger radiator with a 4.6 block ( deeper, but not taller or wider will bolt in ) Custom radiators in NZ you'll find good sources + recommendations at: http://www.oldschool.co.nz
one of which is:
A1 Radiators
St Asaph St
Christchurch

Not meaning to rain on your parade; but increasing the stock horsepower of a motor vehicle by more than 20% in NZ requires engineering compliancing certification + a "VIN" compliance plate attached. ( Read: $$$$. ) This is why the Vintrim P6B's didn't get the "Full Monty" and stayed at 3.5 litre wth a mild cam + as such these didn't need compliancing. You'll be up somewhere around 300BHP, quite a jump from 180 or so

Changing to a Jag. diff; note that the mounts can only be done by a compliancing engineer in NZ + ( you guessed it ) a compliancing VIN plate is fitted to note the mod. for subsequent inspections. Even if you have the skill, you can't do this job yourself. From my discussion last year with "Diffs'RUs" in AK. re: my P6B, BTW.

Not my rules; you may want to 'phone around and confirm. Rules have changed a lot since the late 1980's about what you can+ cannot do to your car,as well as what changes need compliancing and inspecting, and by who

Cut and paste into your browser, below, for the best article I've found yet by a Kiwi who has modified a P6B It's in "Word"format, but don't let that put you off.

If anyone knows who wrote this article, let me know 'cos I'd like to thank him!
( ZN1665, Green '75 P6B )

If you don't know the history of your P6B, buy a full report from http://www.carjam.co.nz
If the vehicle has rust issues that have previously resulted in it failing a WOF, and/or an Insurance company has at any stage written it off, it can be extremely expensive to get the car back on the road compared to a Rover with no such history. Carjams report will tell you all this + more

Good luck with your V8! Mine is Err, um, Red and err,um, NZ assembled and I'm from Dunedin... Perhaps we need our own subforum ??
