No Headlights / Sidelights

Thought I would use my Late 66 series one to go out last night. It hasnt been on a night drive for some months. Car started fine but no sidelights or headlights! Indicators and brake lights work. Anything to do with side lights/headlights e.g parking light, headlight flasher nothing happens. My first thought -a fuse must have gone but there is no fuse for the sidelights/headlights. Switches still have a nice postive feel. Car has standard 4 fuse box negative earth RHD cloth covered loom. Any ideas please?

Hi,

First thing to check would be whether you have a 12V feed at the switch, either with a multimeter or a test lamp. If yes, the fault is likely to be in the switch itself. If no, it's probably a dodgy connection and you'd need to trace the feed. I'm not familiar with Series I's..but I think the lighting switch feed is a brown wire from the terminal post.

Thanks for the replies. I would like to try a bypass. After removing the handbrake gearlever console and the centre console I have better access to the rear of the light switch... The wiring diagram for RHD with neg earth shows a control box with letters DFWBBE for the feeds. I have scanned the diagram and blown in up to A4 size so i can follow it. My box has different numbers...please see the pic. As the colours on my loom are very faded I am not sure without dismantling the loom which does what. Anyone know from the pic which one is the light feed wire please? I can then try a bypass. Many thanks. with lights fixed i can book an MOT and get car back on the road

hi i am just having the same prob with my series 1 v8 had nothing at all and all i done is make sure the wires and the back off the side light were ok if not they that will cause yr headlights not to work then i cleaned up the fuses and that helped me out i got side light and head light on the left and side with cleaning all the wires up just the drivers side to do next try and have a go at that might help

If it helps I came across this on the Holden site...it's for an RB106 regulator but the wiring may be comparable.

I'd hazard a guess that the DFWBBE on your wiring diagram would equate to D,F,WL,B,E on your RB340 regulator. But don't quote me on that! :)

Good luck!

Thank you all for your responses. My car sailed through the MOT today. A power bypass feed to the park/sidelight switch resolved the problem. :D

Been there, done that. I'm still flummoxed that the original feed wire would be damaged as most of it's in the loom & it isn't that long.
