Hey guys & gals,

I was pretty impressed after stumbling on some of the posts on this forum, nice to see all the activity & enthusiasm - great job - so good, I figured I had to join too.

I've had a P6 'project' for a few years now, even bought a 'parts car' right afterwards - good intentions eh? Well shame on me for letting other things get in the way & jump ahead of it so I've not got much (anything) to show for all the time it's been sat in the garage. I'm hoping that seeing some of your (success) stories will keep me going until it gets too cold. Garage yes - heated - no :(

In the last few weeks I've just started to really roll up my sleeves get the deconstruction going in earnest. It's not a pretty sight right now with the driver's side (LHD over here) cut out & waiting for me to fabricate a patch & then learn to weld - I think I have a bit of sill rust to deal with too. Then there's all the panels hiding down in the basement - something to do in the dead of winter I suppose.

I've tried a little homework on parts and picked up some bits & bobs on Ebay over the years. I believe only about 2,000 were imported here back in '69-70. I'm not looking to go concourse or bankrupt here but I am thinking it will be a much more classy daily driver than an SUV could ever be. Now to pickup some bushings, rubber seals, shocks, springs...... I guess I'll start that right after rust, me the cuttoff tool & angle grinder get go a few rounds. Fingers crossed.

Good luck with your cars & projets,

Paul

Nice to hear from you Paul!

Best of luck learning to weld, by all accounts not as difficult as some would have you believe - and all the places you are going to weld are hidden by the bolt on body panels so early less than visually perfect attempts don't show on the outside!

On here you will need to learn to use the search function - "advaced search" is very easy to use and will yield masses of information. Most of us have all been there before so there will be lots of questions you have already answered by a quick read.

Also you need to discover the UK Ebay site - just pump in Ebay.co.uk - where your existing US log in will still work but there is a section called classic car spares, Rover where you will find masses of P6 bits. Also get to know Ian at Rover Classics and the other suppliers noted from links on the front page.

Probably a bit premature, but a couple of tips with the NADA. Discard the auto choke function on the carbs and revert to a manual choke. The auto choke pretty well killed the cars reputation in the US and is massively over complicated. Also if you have a dual line brake system (twin sevos) discard it and revert to single line brakes!

Best of luck and keep us posted with progress!

Thanks for the welcome & advice Chris.

I finally have the panels off & got the tanks out this weekend so I feel like I'm finally getting somewhere. Now to see if I have any fabrication skills - which I dount :( . It is nice to know that if I do make a dogs-ear of it that it won't be too visible although there is some exterior panel damage that I will have to eventually get to - finger's crossed!

Ebay UK is great but shipping & previously the exchange rate really hurt the overseas crowd expecially for any big stuff but we all have to play the hands we are dealt. My car already has an old 4 barrel setup (Holley I think). Likely I will be looking to fit new carb, intake manifold & choke setup. If I ever get adventourous, a new cam might be really nice as would non-leaded valves but that's more motorwork than I've ever done DIY so I'll work on skills before considering. Not sure of the brakes yet but I know I have lots of work there & will be needing to find rear discs etc when I finally get into those. After the body though, it's the suspension for me. I'm thinking slighly lowered/stiffer shocks/springs, possibly a bigger roll bar and polyeuratane bushings if I can get my hands on them. I really do want to make this a daily driver & not a period-perfect or bank-breaking rennovation.

For now though - it's all about making/fixing sheet metal. I am thinking of starting a project out on the forum out to a) help keep me motivated & b) hopefully show others where I go right/wrong & possibly help with their efforts too. I'm so glad there are other folk doing similar - some of the stuff I saw here is inspirational.

Catch you later - take care,

Paul

Welcome mate, as far as panels go there are plenty of new and used in PA. I can dig up sources for you, one is near Lancaster in Reinholds, the other is a brit parts dealer, I do not want to give out names as others do  which btw is against all policies, at least on all the other forums I lurk on...the dealer is a junk yard dog up north I think near Wellsborough, they [a Father and Son TEAM] buy off of ebay and I gave these great guys tons of parts to help them along, as well as a P6 with a new motor; In any case this all went down last Feb. 09 and to boot I gave them hundreds of parts...many new panels that I sprayed with a special sealer to preserve since I had them at the Rover barn for so many many years tucked away next to good ole boy John Schein who was kind enough to rent me space at the rate of 100% discount, not bad, eh? Well, what comes around goes around so I gave them all away with no strings attached, I could pull a plug here, but email me for details, I know many many dealers in the US and Canada in the ROG underground that have all kinds of BritCar spares -esp. Rover, many are out West but you are within a half days ride to the PA secondary marketeers...also check RoverNET alot of stuff which is NOS on that List. Cheers!

Hi p6parts. Yes we do give out names and numbers for sources of P6 bits. If you have something common - say an MGB - there are lots of dealers and it's up to the buyer to google and shop around to get the best deal. With the P6 there are so few people with parts that it makes sense to ensure that everybody knows who they are. Very frustrating to go to the trouble of having something made and later discover that somebody had it in stock!

Woohoo - Christmas does come early! Thanks for the info P6parts. I'm in the Philly area not far from Lancaster. I knew I was not totally alone but pickin's did seem pretty slim this side. I've only ever seen 2 other P6's around PA over the years & they were unrestored but I know there's a few examples around the East Coast.

Still trying to work floor & sill metal for now but hoping to make it to rolling status as soon as I can - then comes the fun bits!
