Need rear brake pad source / '69 2000TC /

Greetings from Boston, MA / USA and a P6 newbie!

I acquired a nice '69 2000TC and am in the process of putting it back in shape and getting it ready for the road in June. As part of the winter resto project, I want to rebuild the complete brake system and I am having a hard time finding any rear brake pads for the car. I am showing that they are Bendix# DB539 or Lucus# GDB539. Umfortunately, these are not available in the US and I can't find any comparable modern pads or part #. Can anyone help me on what I should be looking for or what might work? I have no problem with sourcing the front pads, but the rears are a mystery.

Less importantly, I am also trying to find an interchange for the air filter. It shows a Fram CA2648 or Baldwin P505295. These are also not available in the US and no one seems to have the correct interchange for a new model air filter.

Thanks for your help and I hope to post a few pics as the project rolls along.

Happy New Year!....................Kurt a/k/a LeLimoMan

They are the same as a Austin Healey 3000.

Other crosses are:

Beck arnley 0820571, CENTRIC Part # 10400020, Axis 088-0571

Beck Arnley you may be able to get through NAPA. Otherwise try rockauto.com . Advance Auto might have some left as well.

I have an excel spreadsheet with a comprehensive parts listing. PM me with your email address if you would like a copy. It also assists in tappet calculations.

Stick with organic pads, and your rotors should last forever. My 69 Rover 2000 auto has had plenty of pad changes, and the rotors have never been turned on a lathe, or replaced.

James.

Give Ian at Rover classics a call, he normally has these pads in stock. His details are on the main site under suppliers.

Colin

Colin:

Thanks for the advise and the possible source. You mention Rover Classics and that their info is available on the "main" site under "suppliers". Unfortunately, I'm not sure what main site you are referring to. This site does not have a suppliers listing (that I'm aware of...yet). Can you please provide me a link to this suppliers list or to the main site that you are referring.

Sorry for being so dense....what do you expect from a newbie?!

Thanks!

They are the same as a Austin Healey 3000.

The front pads are but the rears certainly aren't. AFAIK the only vehicle to share the rear pads was the Ford Zephyr/Zodiac mk4.
DB539 was used on early 4 cylinder cars but the V8s and later cars used DB555 which is identical except for the addition of the pad wear indicators so will fit without trouble. I can only find a couple of crossover part numbers but I'm not sure what brands are availabe in the States. But you could try: Remsa- 0041.00 or 0041.02, AP Lockheed- LP143, FMSI- D73-7005.
That's all I can find in my book, but as neither Rovers nor Zephyr were sold in great numbers in the US, your best bet will be shopping overseas either from the Rover specialists in the UK or on Ebay UK.
I have heard the name Ruth from ABC bandied about as a helpful British car expert on your side of the ocean but I'm not too sure where she is. Maybe worth asking some of the British car clubs in your area.

Thank Colin:

More great resources (and more money to spend). Always looking for all the info I can find and the site definitely has a lot.

Cheers!.............Kurt

I just sent you the spreadsheet. I misread your original posting, and quoted you on front brake pads.

I just checked Bendix Australia's website. They still list DB555, for Rover 3500. DB539's seem to be NLA. I am heading to Australia in April, so I may buy up a stash of them and bring them back and distribute them at RoverAmerica 2010 if there is a demand for them. Are you on Rovernet as well?

James.

Hi Kurt

Give RockAuto.com a go. They frequently stock P6 consumables and I'm sure they have brack pads.

They are US based and quite cheap.

Cheers,

Steven

James & Steven:

Thanks for responding. RockAuto lists them as NLA, so I would imagine there might be some interest in a supply of them at RoverAmerica. I am planning on attending that event and Dirk Burroughs, one of the organizers, is the fellow I bought the car from originally. I have found them at Rover Classics in the UK, but at 42.50BPS plus shipping, they're not cheap.

I'll keep looking for a US source and will post any that I find here. (after buying mine...of course  )

I am not on rovernet at this time. Can you send me a link please.

Thanks again for your help.

Cheers...........Kurt

The Rover P6 Club has worked closely with a UK manufacturer to reinstate production of the rear brake pads (Girling type spec without wires) and these are now available to RP6C club members, please check out www.p6club.com for further details or contact me at editor@p6club.com

Yes, I agree the fronts are the same as the Healey, but certainly not the rears. The rears are the GDB539 (Lucas Girling #) or D73 (D073) pads. If anyone needs some, I have a few sets that I'll sell cheap, $25.00 a set. You can email me directly if you like: allcarparts@aol.com. Hope that helps.

Kurt. I think you asked for a link to the Rovernet. If, so, here's the web page where you can subscribe.
http://www.roverclub.ca/rovernet.htm
There are some other folk, there, who might volunteer a set of pads from their stock (not free, I don't imagine, but a set of other Rover contacts for you in North America).

Otherwise send me a "PM" (private message) and I'll help.. :)
