LIFE ON MARS IS BACK - And about time, too

Last year, the above finally made it to NZ tv. The channel which showed it is State owned and has less than the usual advertising and has the better quality programmes, mainly British. I greatly enjoyed it, although there was not much in the way of P6s. About a month ago, the channel advised suddenly that the above would return the next week. I have since found out that the series was immensely popular, and TVNZ scooped the others by delaying its return. Like Doctor Who, the plot is paper thin but made up for by the general production and the standard of acting. I think Sam Tyler has been overtaken by Gene Hunt. With his fawn overcoat, black gloves, language and his habit of refreshing himself from a hip flask at intervals this is a TV classic. May it continue.

Hope you enjoy the series. It was a great one too.

When it's finished look out for Ashes To Ashes which is a spin off centring on Gene Hunt who's moved to London in the '80s to sort out the 'southern scum'.

I seem to remember there's a great chase scene in the 2nd series involving a P6, which ends up crashed. I've got it on DVD somewhere, but watch out for it !

I don't know if this is the same series as you have been viewing, but TV ads say we are getting Life on Mars here in the states in a few weeks

If i recall correctly there is a car chase in Life on Mars where a P6 makes a sharpe turn and on the wall of the building behind the car is a huge great security light. I do like trying to spot the mistakes during filming. Security lights are always visible. I think Heartbeat has made that mistake before.

The bits I love in Life on Mars are the plants growing out the sides of houses, about 15 feet up, just about where a satellite dish should be !

Well said, Harvey
Perhaps nostalgia filters out the bad parts , but the 70's seemed good to me
Good cars like P6's and Granadas and none of this PC nonsense and green issues
OK I do remember the 3 day week and rampant inflation. We used to get "threshold payments" each month where our meagre wages were increased because of inflation
Come to think of it , perhaps that's what we need now to cover the ri8sing costs of fuel, gas , electric etc ?

We're wandering off topic a bit here, but I tend to agree. Having been in the motor trade since the early '70s at least back then you could make a decent living out of fixing cars, and the P6 in particular.

It's impossible for me to say I'd go back though.................................................I never really left........
