jumping out of reverse

I have had the car jumping out of reverse a couple of times. More so if there is a bit of strain.

Is there any fixes for this or is it a box out job?

Of course I drive smothly and it only jumps when the good lady is behind the wheel. I told her to hold the stick for now.

Hi,

I had this on my 3500S. Aparently it is wear in one of the bearings allowing the layshaft (I think) to slop around more than it should (sorry, but I'm not much of a gearbox expert!).

As far as I know it's a gearbox out and rebuild job. I had Kingsdown Garage P6 specialists in Oxfordshire do the work on mine and now it's fine.

I was told at the time however that parts for 3500S gearboxes (if this is your model) - especially layshafts - are becomming very rare and many owners are simply using the opertunity to swap to a SD1 5-speed box.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that my car is a 2200tc.

I am getting tempted to rip the box out of my sd1 but it keeps giving me the sad eyes when I threaten her.

I can live with it for now as it is a niggle and not a problem.
