I'm pretty sure all TC's are Girling - the TC was introduced at the same time as the first warm over of the S1 which included the change from Dunlop to Girling.

Blue? BLUE??
Sacrilegious. Why not grey casting paint?
Hurrumph. Make them look OEM. That's my 2 pence worth.

I can't recall seeing any cars of this era with painted calipers as standard
I think this craze started with Brembo where the principle seems to be the bigger the better

i actualy got the blue caliper paint free so i used it on them:D ...they were coated with a browny coloured primer before but were new and never used. I saw a single caliper on ebay sell the other day so i now have an idea of what to start them at ...cheers

Hi dont know if anybody else has noticed it but the reason i said a light blue on the calipers is because upon removal for overhaul on my P6 I found traces of a light blue with a greeny tinge, this definately not done by me or previous owner - 2 owner car. there was only traces on the calipers in several different areas and you could see the paint was very old (original). I have absolutely no doubt of this whatsoever the other side was the same. This is a completely unmolested car, the calipers had never been off the car,. Regards Ken

I may be dazzed and confused at times, but if the two pistons unbolt from a central frame then they will be the Dunlops. (I am pretty sure they have DUNLOP written on them as well). :;):
I have a 1965 TC with Dunlops, it is in a shed a Dad's place so I cant run down and have a look (5500 miles does that), but I am pretty sure the first 6 months or so of TC production had Dunlops (using up the remainder of stock perhaps?) ???
If they are in good condition then they are a bit of a find, I have three sets that were rotated between the two cars with them (Grey 2000, Dented and blown up sort-of-a-racer-but-not-trying-too-hard 2000TC ), always worked well and were very powerful for their age.

Nice to here from you again Guy. Yes, my impression is that overall the Dunlops were better brakes, particularely the rears. Their one big failing was brake sqeal. I suspect that had a lot to do with the pad compounds of the time. These were very early for a production car and I suspect nearly all the development had been done in a racing environment up to then. They certainly had pertty hard compounds - they had a distinct improvement in braking when "warmed through"!

I have to agree with the squeal, I had a set of Ferodo Compound "R" on the Grey car, and they sounded like a pack of Banshees when cold. Once warmed up they could out brake just about anything. :;):
The TC has Bendix "Kevlar" pads (if they are really Kevlar then they are the most modern thing on the car), that were silent in operation, and gave great performance. They did coat the wheels with a purple dust which while very pretty, was an absolute sod to remove.
Could the "R" stand for Racing? The box had most the cardboard turned to dust when I got them. Didn't Jag MK2s and Aston Martin DB4 and 5 have identical brakes to the early 2000?

Cheers
