Hi there guys,
Signed up basically to get some info, i've got an old p6 thats sat in a garage all my life ( im 21) that my grandpa, whom i never met, had stored the day the engine wouldnt start.

As a kid, and even today when i went over to see my grandma, i have to open the garage and sit in the car and marvel at how comfy roomy, and MASSIVE the steering wheel is!

The car looks in great shape having been stored for so many years, the doors dont drop, shut nicely and their doesnt seem to be any signs of rust from the outside, but being into classic minis allready, i know that doesnt say much for a car!

The tires are all flat, the rear suspension looks like its dropped/ decked and the cars still got period items in it such as a 70's book on how to fish and a cigarette packet.

I havent a clue what to look for as serious problems on this beut but i am up for a challenge and would love to get this car back to its former glory and see the faces on my nan and pops faces.

My dads talked about restoring it for years, and ive allways asumed he wants it back to original, but from what he said last year, he would love to shove on some 'mexico-like' arches and slap a v8 in there ( who wouldnt!)

I'm pretty mechanically minded having owned a 89 rover mini for the last three years (you kinda have to be!) which in its current state has its engine in bits due to a gearbox failure!

Anyway, enough about me, time for some pics of the car:(best i could manage from the back of the garage)

After my exams i'll take a look under the old bird and see if we can get it rolling to get a better look at what needs doing to ressurect her!

I love posts like this! 22ish years in a garage and just waiting to be let loose again! Looks wonderful..you're a lucky guy!

A very late Series 1 2000TC...and I don't think you'll get a V8 in easily, but why would you want to really! I'm just down the road in Leicester, so I could pop up for a look-over if you fancy? Well, I'd love to anyway!

Hi i agree it looks lovely as it is and the 2.2 / 2 l are nice to drive as well , i hope you do get her back on the road again it looks in good shape
regards
marcus,

Well that was only pipeline dreams, i really need to find another engine to slap in but i'm not going to get too serious about it till i have the money, permission and some space to work on it!

Vaultsman thank you for your kind offer, i'd love to have some more knowledgable opinion on the beast, like i say i'll ask my father first if everything is ok, but i really do want to get this road worthy, its just eeks of the grandad i never met, but thats probably the cigarette flavoured sheep skin carpets haha ( i kid you not!)

:) Nice one!

PM me some contact details when you're ready if you want me to come up.

Looks like a great project. I for one like the series I better than series II! As it's a 1970, does it have fixed rear quarterlights, or can you open them?

I see that it has an arial - what radio is in it? Mine has a Blaupunkt which certainly seems original, but every UK car I've heard of has a Radiomobile.

I don't think you should have too much of a problem sourcing a replacement engine - they seem to be popping up on ebay fairly often. If you're not fussy about originality you could even go for a 2200 TC engine - although it doesn't have more ponies it 's more torquey and makes for more relaxed cruising.

Personally, I think fitting a V8 is more trouble than it's worth. Then you would have to change gearbox, differential and possibly brakes as well! That being said, other members have done it - just check out the projects threads. I think I would've tried to rebuilt the original engine first, but that's a matter of personal taste. If you want to tune it like you've tuned your mini (excellent thread, BTW), be careful! The compression in a 2000TC is already high - 10:1 - and the carbs are in many peoples opinion already too big (2").

Good thing to have more young members on the forum - I'm 23 and everybody I know just wants a 1987 Ford Sierra to tune to pieces.

Went over today, got some more picutres, and some more information from grandma, how pop allways had wanted a rover and in the last few years of his life owned this beasty.

Apparently the starter motor failed, and that was it? So the engine may possibley be ok! Though 20 odd years sat around, we shall have to see!
