hey im lee im new here and i dont actually own the rover yet, im an amature car enthusiast and i like building up and selling on cars, im looking for a bit of advice as ive been offered a car for free, the only thing i know is that the car is a rover 2000, does this mean its a p6?? could anyone give me a bit of history as i dont know what the car looks like and no idea of reg year :S:S an would i be right in thinking the p6 is what the queen drove many years ago not too sure as i am only 17 so i wasnt around then haha!! but any help would be greatly apriciated!

hi,

i too am fairly new here but welcome:)

the queen owns a couple of rover p5s i believe...

The best bet to give an overview of the car is to search on google for a rover p6 owners club website as they carry lots of information:)

good luck with the p6 if you get it.

A rover 2000 can be a 4 cylinder engined P6 series 1 or series 2. If you go the owners club website there is a gallery http://www.p6roc.co.uk/autogallery.asp.

There was also a SD1 Rover 2000, this is a large car with a hatchback and the P6 is a traditional 4 door saloon.

thanks guys, i dont know what condition it is in but apparently the woman bought it from new, its been in the family for over 30 years, and its been in the garage since 1995 :S if its not in good condition ill still take it to the scrap yard and get some money out of it that way, or i might keep it and restore it as best i can and then sell it on.

You spawn of the devil !

There is buyers guide on the P6Club.com web site which tells you what to look for

http://oldsite.p6club.com/guidefrm.htm

One of the easiest and best indicators of condition to check is the floor under the back seat, just get hold of the seat base and yank it out, delve under the felt and see how much rust is there near the sill. Also in and around the boot.

Just have a drive of a road worthy example before you decide to keep or dispose of this one - you may be surprised.

also remember it's probably worth more as parts than scrap should it be really untidy...

hey i just got back from viewing it and its really tidy to say that its been sitting in the garage for 20 yrs, theres about 3 rust bubles on the bonnet, i think the bonnet is aliminium :S, its a rover 2000 TC brown in colour, floorpan is good, boot is in mint condition sills are good!, the car is structurally sound its yr is 1973, is this tax exempt? had a look inside the rocker cover looks pristine, but there does seem to be a sign of an oil leak so i think the rocker gasket may be leaking, the radiator had been drained so maybe there was an issue before maybe water pump??. but overall better than expected oh and maybe a back wing has been replaced not quite sure on that one

alreet,if you were to offer the car 4sale i would be interested in buying it if its not a fortune, where abouts are you?Bri

im in benllech and i dont know what needs to be done but at the moment it looks like it only needs a re spray for the bonnet and possibly a new water pump although ive only viewed it once myself and battery was dead so didnt get to check the electricals or the engine properly, but if it ran when it was kept then it should still run now lol, what do you think it is worth if it runs? and if only a re spray of the bonnet?

Had to be registered before the end of '72 to be tax exempt

Sorry, but I have to correct you. Has to have been built before Jan 1st 73. So could be a 73 registered car but still be tax exempt. They still made the 2000 until early September 73. Mine was made on the 12th of September 73 and is one of the very last 2000's built.

I stand corrected.

i see, so not much chance of being tax exempt then lol, and i just found out that i might not be even getting it now, it has to be approved by her husband first lol!!
