Headlights not working , switch was playing up so replaced that thinking it was that but still not working. If I put main beam on ie pull stalk back all 4 headlights come on. When using switch ie at night side lights on but can't get headlights. Fuses on passenger glovebox all ok. Any ideas guys
Cheers MIck

Hi Mick

If you've already changed the switch then my money would be on the earth to the switch because all four lights coming on when you operate the flash stalk suggests the supplies and lights themselves are ok.

Hmmm not too sure, the switch probably earths somewhere behind the dash. Look for a black wire (usual earth colour) going to the bulkhead somewhere. If you find it, remove it and clean the area before reconnecting.

Hi, I had this some years ago and it turned out to be the dip/main changeover
switch on the column. The flash function is supplied by an ignition feed so can
be confusing.

There is a bizzare fault I have seen on P6.

Even though the fuses are ok they don't make a great connection.

Try this, with the light on rotate the fuses with you thumbs or fingers. 60% it works everytime

I had the same as colnerov, except that mine actually recovered after vigorous use of the dip to main beam function.

Messed about with fuse box , removed wires for lights and refitted and hey presto we have headlights again happy days

Glad to hear it.

Have a good look at the fusebox though. Sounds like it's been suffering from heat damage. The plastic around the fuse holders tends to soften when the lights are on due to the heat generated. Then as it cools and hardens it pulls the connector away from the fuse and you lose the lights.

CAnt remember what age your car is but there is the catching fire issue to worry about if that is the case!
