Hazard relay location

I'm having trouble locating the hazard relay can on my '73 C suffix car. That is, I'm not sure which is the flasher and which is the hazard, but one is square and sits behind the driver's glovebox and replacing that made no difference. My indicators are flashing very rapidly, sometimes not at all.

Hello Tor,

Just pull the connector off one of the relays and test the indicators or pull the hazard knob out. Either way only one will work and so you will know which one is which.

Ron.

Cheers Ron, but what I'm after is where the second relay is located physically. Might be overlooking something obvious but...

They are generally right beside each other (or within 6 inches) Inside the drivers glovebox, on the inside of the pillar or underside of the parcel tray. Basically, if you can see one, then you should be able to see the other.

Thanks kiwirover. My car is an old LHD convert, so has a few things that haven't been relocated by the book...

I guess you will just have to follow your ears. Turn the indicators on and listen for the ticking. If you can't tell which one it is, put your finger on it and it should be obvious.

Ex-RHD actually 8) It turns out they were both behind the driver's glove box. The indicator relay is hidden pretty much out of sight behind some gaffa tape and wires so had to find it going by ear. Was expecting a round one, by mistake, but it's just a smaller version of the hazard one. So, replaced for a correct unit, now stable and plink-plonking as it should. Only niggle now is that both dash arrows light up, dimly; not the sided one only when indicators are on. Is this a common aspect of irregular wiring? My other cars didn't have this 'feature'.

There's nuff gaffa tape under the dash in general, and I'll also have to tackle a dead rear screen heater and a dormant pos. 2 on the interior lights switch. Door courtesy switches are all fine.
