FUEL PUMP NOT DOING THE JOB

Hi
i,ve got a 1975 v8,thats driving me batty.
The fuel pump isnt giving enough fuel to the carbs, you can see the fuel going into the filter, but it only dribbles in.
when checking spark plugs there was only 1 wet one on the left hand cylinder
the fuel pump on it is a round electric one.
I,ve stripped and cleaned pump, but all it does is make a stupid clicking noise.
I,m not sure if its the wrong pump, designed for a smaller car,or if I,m missing something obvious,
please tell me anything you might know to make it run, I,ve had enough of it now.thanks

Has it just started doing this or have you just got the car?
Maybe the pipe from the tank is blocked or taking in air
Do you know what make the pump is ?

IF ITS CLICKING ITS NOT DRAWING FUEL
oops! CAPS off
could be drawing air from a leak in pipes or at reserve tap.

Could be the old "rust in the bottom of the tank" problem, could try a bit of air back up the fuel pipe (petrol cap off so it doesn't pressurise)
