Fuel pressure - Filterking

Hi
Has anyone tried putting a pressure regulator (one brand is called Filterking) on the fuel line before the carburators? I thought it might give my car a smoother running engine. It has a habit of stalling and refusing to start after a short run.

PS
My compliments to this forum and its members. You allways give very good feedback.

If there is a problem like this i would suggest that you should try first and find what is wrong within the carbs, the real cause of your problems.

If you treat it to a proper tuning and everything is a it should be from the factory, and still you 're not happy, then you should look at improvements.

For known problems like vapour lock on V8s there is a known therapy, i.e. the replacement of the fuel pump with an electric one.

If you fit an electric fuel pump, in some cases (too high fuel pressure for the good old SUs) the fitment of a pressure regulator is recommended.

Gentlemen, sorry to 'hi-jack' your forum, but in my defence I did have 2 P6 3500s in the early 70s (an early one with air con, it had super vents in the bonnet, and a later one to std spec) incidently if they are still in use the first name in the log book will be GUS Transport.
Anyhow, I have an MGB Costello V8 roadster which I have just bought and I notice there is a fuel pressure regulator fitted. The car has the standard MG electric pump that doesn't exactly throw petrol out and I was wondering whether I should remove it.
Any views would be greatfully received
Robert

I've never found it necessary to fit one, so have no experience with them, but can only see them being of any use if the pump you're using is running too high a pressure, and if that's the case why have the high pressure pump. As said earlier, if you have problems running without the regulator, cure those problems, rather than masking them behind a regulator.

I have one fitted. (it p6 engine HIf6 in land rover with facet interrupter pump). No idea why if was fitted and don't know if it will run without it.

from memory the SU want about 3 psi but the pump runs at a bit more than that (6 - 9 psi sporings to mind).

Are you not experiencing vapour lock? after a drive you stop andinge but then refuses to start?

One fix is to have a recicrulating system so a pipe goes from the second carb bck to the tank. I have this and I have not had restarting problems)

All P6 V8's run a recirculating system, with a small bore pipe going back from the O/S carb to a fitting on the tank unit.
