This is where my ignorance of technical terms comes in

Just discovered a fuel leak? There are 2 overflow pipes from the carbs on my 3500. They both "end" below the engine - Discovered one today positively pouring petrol out. Ideas on possible causes and cures please.

My manual is naff!!

hi zebedee,
there is a float in each carb, if it is split it will sink and petrol can not stop being pushed in, so it only has one place to go and that is from the overflow pipe you have described.

Yep concure with Ian. The floats push up onto valves, preventing the float chambers from overfilling. It all works a bit like a domestic toilet cistern filling up, and yours is overflowing !
Things I can think of are, a punctured float or the cone valve it pushes onto being worn (seating badly), or it could just be dirt getting in the way.
If a quick clean does'nt fix it, best get one of those SU overhall kits, and make sure the valve is included !
