Fuel Catalyst

Bri

Ah yes I remember reading that. Must have killed those brain cells between then and now :D

I must get round to trying Tetraboost sometime. Mind you I'm using Castrol Valvemaster Plus and that seems to be working just fine, just need to find a bulk supplier rather than paying the £14-£15 that Halfords charge. Usual story though, buy a couple with intention of sourcing cheaper bulk supply only to leave it too late and end up having to go back to Halfords  I get through a bottle of the stuff a month with the mileage I'm doing!

cheers

Small point, but make sure you choose a supplier who's clearly reputable.
I bought a couple of bottles for a tenner each off an eBay seller with good feedback, then found myself doubting their contents. Holding the two bottles up to the light, one looked very marginally darker than the other. Trouble is, Castrol don't fit a seal to the bottles so you can't be sure they haven't been tampered with. I don't know if it's possible to refill them through the siphon gizmo, but would prefer not to have to worry about it.

Good advice Willy.

I shall bear that in mind thanks

Saw this on eBay:

Anyone got any experience of these?

I'm quite confident the general consensus about these catalyst products by the majority of people (I mean the general public, not just us P6 nuts!) is they are snake oil.

I'm not sure if the complete principle(s) they 'work' on is even theoretically sound (i.e. on paper), let alone being practically sound. In other words, the 'science' behind them might even be 'junk science'! (Well, it was found many many years ago (1920's, I am now told) that a 'soluble-in-petrol' compound of a heavy metal did prevent detonation. That is true and was demonstrated at the time (and of course has been since then; that's one reason tetra-ethyl lead was used in petrol!), but 1) I'm not sure tin is a good enough heavy metal substitute to use and, 2) wouldn't the tin have to be in a 'soluble-in-petrol compound' to have any chance of working anyhow?)

I know Practical Classics tested Carbonflo ~20 years back on an old Landcrab (Austin/Morris 1800), and destroyed the head completely! If you look at Carbonflo's site, they mention this and claim it was an unfair test!
