A bit of a quirk of the time these cars were built, this one. The switch energises the front fog (or spot) lights. But at the same time it kills the headlights! This was the law at the time they were built! Of course it would be possible to rewire using relays to give a more normal result.

hi,
the colours i can not help you with as i am colour blind, however where the wires are for your headlights and side lights, there is one spare wire for connecting the fogs ( live ) then plug the earth into the earth plug that is there for the others. the wire is disconnected and needs joining together ( it is under the dashboard, right hand side of the passenger glovebox )

I remember finding a disconnected plug in the glovebox when I was recommissioning. I can't remember if I reconnecting it, thinking it must do something. So now I know, it does nothing as I have no fog lights :)

But it does give you live ends to the wires at the front of the car. Best de-connect or you risk a short next time you drive in heavy rain.

A fantastic summary of something that has caused me a lot of head-scratching these past few days. I will fit my Dad's old lights on a new circuit.
Thanks, lads.
