Fog light dates.

Does anyone know roughly when Rover changed the specs of their original fog lights? I realise that there is probably some variation due to them being sourced from outside suppliers but I would be curious to know if there is any official timeline. My guess is that they went something like this:
'63-'64- Notek blue dot, round.
'65-'67- Cibie rectangular.
'68-'71- Lucas square 8, Chrome back.
'71 on- Lucas square 8, Plastic back.
I realise that there were some other brands fitted like Wipac and Unipart but I'm only really intersted in the factory spec ones.
Any thoughts, comments?

Hi KiwiRover, I can confirm our April '65 car got Cibie lamps. But they were dealer fit, not factory fit.

I am pleased to see that there were some round lamps fitted to P6s, since I have inherited a pair of round ca. 1970 round Lucas lamps when I cleared out my father's garage. I intend to fit them to my 1972 3500s, despite the non-originality, the nostalgia rules. However, so far I haven't found the promised red/yellow cable to attach them to, and don't know what is the recommended place is to attach the brackets. Any hints?

While not technically 'correct', (it seems the round Noteks were only fitted for about a year) a large number of fog/spotlights would have been fitted by either the dealer or owner after purchase so as long as the lights are period and fit ok, theres no reason not to use round lights. The brackets are attached to the outer bumper mounts and on a V8, you can just use a small piece of angle iron to do the job. The proper brackets were a bit longer and shifted the lights further inboard but they look good mounted right below the bumper mounts. The wiring for them should be part of the bundle that contains the headlight wiring. If you peer down into the murky depths behind the headlights, you will see all the rubber sleeves for the Lucar connectors and there should be one stray blue/yellow wire each side that isn't being used. That will be your fog light power supply. You will need to earth the light somewhere handy (I think there is a screw for all the lighting earths nearby) and then you need to open the passenger glovebox and look up to the loom behind it and you will see 3 stray wires. (One red/yellow and 2 blue/yellow) Connect these all together with a double Lucar connector and that connects the switch to the lights.

Many thanks, KiwiRover. Your information will make the job a cinch.

This is a completely new tack - but how do you get the pictures, etc. attached to the posts? I'd like to let people see my Rovers!

We like pictures...

When you go to write a post, you'll see a grey section under the panel that you write in. This grey section has some tabs, one of which is an upload tab. Once you're into that it should be pretty obvious. But you might need to resize you photo's to make them look right. I use Microsoft photo edeitor cos it came with my software. If you have that then if you load your picture into it, go to the "image" menu and you will be able to both crop and resize your photo.

Chris

Thanks for the help, but all I got was a message that the image I tried to load was invalid. Any ideas what I am doing wrong, anybody?

And why didn't my signature appear in the preview?

Why am I so old?

Ian

For the picture that's easy, it's too big! You need to reduce it's size to get it to upload properly.

Not sure about the signature bit.
