Flasher not working

Suddenly no flasher, either by hazard warning or by using flasher control.
The relay possibly? How do i reach it. Haynesbook says "under the dash". How much do i have to remove?
And: does it require an original part or can i use a standard flasher relay, for an elderly Volvo par exemple?

Hej Ragvald,
If I remember correctly the relay is screwed to the body and is visible when you open the glovebox (remove the retaining strap and let the glovebox lid move out of the way), I'm not sure what side it will be if your car is a left hand drive, I can't see any problem if you fit a different relay as long as it's 12v, you may get a slightly different flash rate and the relay may sound different. You may even find the oldtimer Volvo relays are the same, there is quite a few parts that the two cars share. My car is not here at the moment to check it, so I will double check later to make sure unless someone else beats me to it

Tjena Ragvald!

It is as restojon says - a small square relay on the left behind your driver's glovebox which I believe is the hazard one. The mounting is screwed in, the relay can be pulled straight out from it. It has two connectors and is reported to be a standard item of the era with V and W ratings printed on it. There's a second, round relay apparently for the indicators, which I haven't needed to locate so far. But if they all died together, my bet is you could look at your fusebox connectors!

If I remember correctly, old Volvo indicator relays have a specific and pleasant plink plonk to them!

Hej & tjena gentlemen!
Thank you for enlighting answers! :D
Yeah- the nice plink-plonk, me like it but annoying for our papa when me and my brother
imitated it at every turn in the 70's and 80's in our 144 or 142

I have to add at this point that even though we have three different languages between us the "plink plonk" is universally understood by all of us, I thought I was the only person who noticed things like that, that sound is a lasting memory of my childhood in the 70's and 80's and I used to drive my dad mad with imitating it too. Plink plonk.....plink plonk.....plink plonk.....plink plonk. That's really given me a smile even now, Tack for ett gott skratt! Hope you find your problem and solve it soon.

Just a thought try working the hazard switch in and out a few times as they can get a bad connection through
lack of use. If so use switch cleaner.
