Firing order.

I was out tinkering one day and noticed the firing order moulded into the manifold. I traced the leads out and it's completely differrent. It runs as it should so can anyone shed any light? Cheers.

do you have 4 reverse gears& 1 forward? :p
and are you sure that the numbers on manifold are the firing order and not a cast no. long time since I played with a rover V8 so can't remember if the firing no.s are there or not.

the inlet manifold should have the correct firing order: 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2

Viewed from above, the distributor rotates clockwise and should match the above, if not, your ignition is wired up incorrectly.

I'd be interested to hear what you have connected; one or 2 cylinders wired incorreclty may go by unnoticed but it should run better when correct.

My girly, when I got her I believe the firing order had been messed up - I replaced all the HT cables and it wouldn't start (DO'OH) Electronic ignition has been added and the dizzy is about 50° out. Once I finally figured that out I also found a cable had been crossed over originally. All firing right now and the power came up heaps.

I suppose I should own up. When I was checking the order, I was working on the assumption that the V engine was A1234 and B1234 as most V engines are numbered. (At least they are on the ships I've worked on.) However, after consulting the manual, I now know that it's different and my engine is correct. Feel fre to give abuse.:p
