Extreemly early S2 V8 or is it?

I think this car was discussed a while back, and it was concluded that it had perhaps lived abroad, or similar. Certainly quite an early one, but not one of the first. It's definitely not a 1969 car, I'd imagine. A fair bit dearer than it was last time too.

DVLA say 1st reg 5/5/94,so possibly re-imported,or rediscovered without docs and restored, and assigned new age related reg number!!
I have asked a few Q's!
Any link for when discussed before?

I think the FBY reg is a re-register. A local P5B I know was registered FBY438H.

If you search my previous posts it might come up as I think I posted on the topic.

Its clearly all in the presentation!
I would want to see what is lurking under the rear wings! Too much bubbling rust and orange peel for a £4K car.
Paint the air filter with silver paint and now "the engine is as good as it looks"!
So long as it doesn't need much welding, would make someone a nice £2.5k car!

I'd say early '71 then based on that VIN number. May car was registered at the end of November and the chassis number is half that.

Maybe it had a factory replacement base unit?

Its an original early S2 on a S1 base unit with slam panel uprights and early fusebox, that was bought new and shipped to sunny abroad, then brought back in 94.

Is that confirmed?

As far as the owner is aware, yes!
In early S2 production when did the base units change from S1 to S2 spec?
At about what chassis number?

Hi all,
This thread prompted me to look @ my P6 in more detail. I knew this car ( formerly my late grandfathers) from 1976 @ 5 years old until late 80's - after a large gap - bought it 5 years ago. Its a series 2 3500 automatic - no power steering registered 24/06/71 as GAN 340J - chassis 451055xxx and engine 42530444C - large square letters on the boot lid - hooked choke/ reserve knobs - early carbs - fuse box. Is my car considered quite early ? I have base unit rust issues and was considering changing this for a rust free one, or is it best to repair original ?

Mark.

Hi Mark.
Your car is a little earlier than mine 45106644A,but 1st registered 2wks later.
The S2 was launched in Oct 1970 and there a quite a few about built in the 1st year.
To keep its originality, you would be best repairing the original base unit!
Cheers Dave

I'd say that a "C" suffix engine is way too late to have been the original engine in a '71 car, so my guess is that it's had an engine change along the way.

I can only go on the heritage cert that states it!
Maybe their info is wrong!
Apparently it was an export car that didnt go!

Hi,
Regarding C suffix on my engine all I can say is that all looks never to have been disturbed - ie all screw / bolt heads / etc - are perfect not burred. Also lots of original grime !! DVLA states this is original engine and chassis number - so I think all seems as it should ?

Mark.
