Exhaust system - auto exhaust pipes & manual box?

I understand the exhaust piping is different from the manifolds to the middle box between the automatic and manual models. Is is possible to use the system from an automatic in conjunction with a transplanted LT77 or similar manual box? Or does the front section of the exhaust system also have to be swapped to the piping from a manual car? A glance at the illustrations from the parts catalogue shows how different the two systems look. See the helpful Rover Classics website reference section:

I am 98% certain that the auto exhaust will fit a manual car, (but not vice versa) however the manual exhaust is a fair bit better if you can manage it. The big bore manifolds are an improvement and the pipes merge a lot further back. If you are buying a new system, then I don't think there is much price difference to go for 'S' pipes. However, if you already have a good auto setup, I'm sure it will work.

Thanks for confirming that. One less bit of kit to have to worry about if/when I go for a manual conversion.

well if yr going to have the 5 speed box it makes a hell of a difference i was thinking off having the manual set up on mine but that could not afford getting that set up but as i said the auto box does the job as well so i am keeping with the auto set up on mine

Hi,

I have an auto exhaust on my LT77 converted P6 and although it does fit it gets very close to the SD1 clutch slave cylinder, see pic. I had to turn the cylinder over and file a bit off it to gain a bit of clearance. Fitting an actual Manual exhaust is still on my list of improvements to make but at the moment there are other priorities with regard to scoring better on the Rallies.
