engine oil additives - any experiences?

I was wondering if anyone has used these in their V8 engines, and what they thought of them. I usually avoid 'cure-alls'.

What about AMETECH oil, on eBay, item number 4605547367

Jason

Hello Jason,
personally, I would NOT use them or recommend the use of any of them. I read an article in one of the classic car magazines, many years ago, that quoted a major oil company spokesman as saying that the company spent millions of pounds in research and development only for the results to be spoilt by the addition of some additive with unknown and unproved qualities!
However, others may have had good experiences with them and advise you otherwise.
Regards, John.

I'd agree with John here. Your much better off using a correct, quailty engine oil and just change it regulary (3K miles or as soon as it darkens significantly in colour for those that didn't know!).

Pete.

yes, I usually think the same. However this one has had a good press of late and Ol'Quentin Willson endorsed it.... not that should sway me of course.... but I read all that quoted bumph on the eBay page and clutched a straw or two

Cheers

Quentin Wilson probably used oil additive on his hair...
Would any one buy a used car from someone like him?
Dave

rover v8 is 50's technology; using any cheap oil, wilkinsons etc: but replacing much sooner 5 K miles or less is suposedly more beneficial. synthetic oils are a no no. additives like slik50 - I have used thatin the past - have been shown to be of no benefit.
