Engine bay sound deadening

Just starting to refit the engine bay on the estate. When I removed the heater box etc all the sound deadening material against the bulkhead had disintergrated. I'd like to replace it but what with?? Anyone got any ideas or done this job themselves in the past?

I use a rather good product called Quality Heat Shield. It is made in the US and has a heat reflective aluminium based side, bonded to a sort of fibre stuff. It is 3/8 " thick and has a layer of fibre glass in the middle. It works a treat! Easy to use and has cut the heat and noise from the engine bay by an easy 50% over the original material.
Not sure where you can get it in the UK, but it is great stuff and really easy to mould around complex shapes if needed.
Hope this helps
Cheers
Guy. :)

I used some "ivanhoe" sound deadening on my MG V8 conversion. It's a foil backed bitumen type sheet with adhesive. Its more of an anitdrumming product I guess. That other stuff sounds better. I have one roll of the stuff left - £10 - or try local car hi-fi (ICE these days I think) they should have it can maybe get it.

IF you find the thicker stuff I might take some for my 2000SC

Cheers for the advice chaps.

Jeff Weekley is actually sending me some original type material (ordered before I saw the replys!) but I think I'll take a look into the quality heatshield Guy has suggested. It sounds like a much better product.

My main worry with the original material is that it tends to soak up water. If it doesn't seem any good there are plenty of other places I can use it so it's no loss.

I'll let you know if I can find a source of any better products.

I've found the stuff you referred to Guy. Demon tweeks sell it but it's quite expensive at 34quid + VAT for 24" by 21". There must be cheaper source than that.
