Electronic ignition/Pertronix - works great/no Tach

I removed the points and installed a Pertronix Hall Effect unit in my 2000TC, it works perfectly. However I lost the tach signal. My Kenneth Ball/AutoPress Ltd repair manual wiring diagram does not show the Tach. Anyone had a similar experience and know how to restore the tach signal/function? Thanx

You don't say whether it's series one tacho (optional pod) or series two. They are different. I added a tacho to my series one V8 which has a Pirhana optically triggered electronic ignition. As it's the former current sensed tacho (with code RVI on the front), I wired the coupling wire in series between the coil and the Pirhana unit, and the 12 volt tacho supply to the fuse box connection feeding stop lamps, reverse lamps etc (green wires). Works well.
RVI tachos are normally looped between the coil and the distributor and your addition of electronic ignition may have cut this circuit. If it's the later voltage sensed tachometer (RVC) then I would have thought it would continue to work. Two useful informative web sites are www.classictiger.com and www.denaploy.co.uk
I also E-mailed Pirhana and got a very helpful reply. Before anything else I would question Pertronix. The above is an optically triggered and not a Hall effect switching The wiring may have to be different. Hope this is helpful. I was Tachometer ignorant a short time ago and ended up looking in to it after being quoted a lot of money for doing it. Reminds me of fixing Kienzle clocks where a little knowledge can save lots of money.

thanx for the reply. I will ck w/Pertronix firstly. Such a neat install, I am sure it's something small.

cheers!

I will follow the tach related info on the site and check back with (hopefull) tales of a working tach. Thank you...

Hi!
Yesterday i installed a pertronix electronic ignition set on my 69 2000 tc, along with a new coil bought from pertronix. It did work very well, and when i'm connected the black wire from the ignitior to the old wire to the tachometer, it all worked. But don't connect the black wire to the coil as told in the installation manual. If you do that the tacho won't work.
