I have spent the last 6 months restoring my 2000/2200 and the very last thing to get it back on the road is a eath problems with the indicators. All the the lights and stop lights are working ok but I can only get one off side rear indicator to work (solid on with no pulse) I know that its an earth fault but do you think I can fix It no I cant!!!.

Help please

One often overlooked trick for this problem is to renew the bulbs! I can't think of a technical reason why they should get higher resistance over the years, but apparently it frequently works! The other action which ought to help is to "freshen up" all the contact surfaces within the bulb holders to ensure you are getting good contacts.

Otherwise I'm afraid it's just a case of laboriously going through the entire loom breaking and remaking every bullet connector.

Thanks for the reply I will try changing bulbs as I have already cleaned all the contact surfaces as a matter of course

Just a thought; Maybe the connecting "blob" under the bulb gets dirty/tarnished over time and this hinders current flow? I seem to think that was the problem with our Vauxhall Astra some years back.

all 4 bulbs replaced, supply is at the contact point for the bulb , I tried a bodge which involved the use of silver foil and this then gave me a supply so the indicators worked allbiet to one side of the car which lead's me onto is it possible to replace thr bulb holder or I still need to get a good contact to the sides of the bulb holder (earth) ,silver foil is not a good fix.

You need a new rear lamp assembly - bulb holders aren't available separately
You could clear out all the corrosion and squash the bulb holder slightly to make it a better fit
Use a smear of Copaslip to prevent the corrosion returning

Sometimes the lead nipple on the end of the bulb distorts over time.

I've seen domestic bayonet type fittings where the spring loaded contacts have sunk so far into the lead that it is very difficult to turn them to remove the bulb.
