Door Weather Seals Leaking - advice needed

Hi - the door weather seal are leaking water. The rubbers look fairly new but they are not butting up at the top of the door properly (1/2mm clearance in places). I would be grateful of any tips you can offer as to how to resolve this (i.e. can the rubbers be packed out in some way)?

I guess the best solution would be to buy new rubber but i am reluctant to do this if those fitted appear to be quite recent

thanks for your help

If the seals aren't sealing, and the assuming doors are fitted and adjusted properly there is not a lot you can do to fix them other than replacement.

The rubber seal takes a set over time - when the seals are new the doors are hard to close without giving them a good slam, but this usually sorts itself out in a few days. However as the seals age they continue to lose a certain amount of their springiness and eventually end up flattened aginst the base unit at which stage they need to be replaced as no amount of fiddling will convinve them to return to their original state.

Hi
The doors can be adjusted via the shims on the hinges to seat into their recess better,or you can just adjust the top stainless surround/glass section of the door,by loosening off its securing nuts, tweaking it in slightly and re-tightening,until it sits right.
Its best done by removing the door card to get access to all the nuts req!!
P6's have PLENTY!!! of bits that need fine adjustment!! Getting them all to be a perfect fit is nearly impossible!!
As when youve got one right it affects the alignment of another!
You can end up chasing a little seal/panel alignment gap all round the car for just a small improvement!!!
I am still playing with, tweaking my panels after 5 yrs of ownership!!!

Have fun!!

thanks- thats sound advice. I think the most logical solution would be to replace them and I take your point about the fine adjustments. As the doors and wings are all nicely in line a suspect any minor changes would result in having to adjust the whole car in some way. What are your views on the replacement s seals from JRW ?
and is an adhesive required ? - thanks all :D

The seals are a tight push fit into a thin bit of channelling!! No glue should be required.
When fitting them, I found it best to use plenty of WD40 or other good lubricant,a good blunt tool for carefully pushing it into the channel, and start at the top of the central door pillar at the sharp corner, then work your way slowly round to the tread plates.
I cannot comment on the quality of JRW rubber products!!
I have however bought items from Scotts old rubber in Australia, and been very happy with the service and quality!!
Worth giving ianp6man at Rover Classics a call as well,to compare prices!! he knows his stuff and may even have some excellent originals.

managed to do this today and am pleased with the results. You were right about door adjustments but it has made a difference so it was well worth the extra time. I pinched the wife's wooden spatcuular from the kitchen which works a treat and does not mark the paint (don't tell her though). It will be worth a ticking off none the less !

I bought the rubbers from Roverspares and they seem to be good quality. It has reduced the wind noise and will hopefull keep the rain out.
thanks for the advice.
