Door glass mechanisms - Are they all rusty.

Thinking ahead one of the jobs to do in the near future is refit the door glass mechanisms into all four doors. Looking them over though they are quite badly rusted in places and some parts look like they might be about to distintergrate.

Will I have much joy finding better condition units or do they all tend to be a but cruddy and therefore I should try and repair what I have??

Planning to replace all the outer door glass seals when I refit. Are the little rubber seals that go at the front and back of the door to seal against the frame available now?

Having pulled doors apart recently, I found that the whole inside of the winder setup had a light coat of surface rust. A quick going over with a scouring pad, and a thin coat of copper grease seems to have done the trick. I also found that the bit (technical term) of metal that runs along the top of the fame that the rubber seal screws through can come away from the frame and will need to be welded back on.
I have also painted all the brackets in the door with stuff called POR15, a ceramic based paint that will hopefully stop any new rust. After struggling with the doors and trying to reasemble them without destroying the new paint I NEVER want to have to do it again! ;)

The "bit" you describe as coming away has detatched itself on a couple of my door frames as well. The really cruddy bit though is the section that holds the glass at the bottom. I might have a look see if it's possible to remove the glass and detatch it from the rest of the mechansim.

Not looking forwards to reassembling the frames into the doors either. They were hard enough to manouver out god knows what they'll be like to get back in again!

I'm a big fan of Jeff as well he's certainly gone out of his way to help in the past. I've given up being lightly insulted by JW these days!
